My first seminar outside of the tech world

Last week I did a seminar on social media for people that are about as far from the technology world as you might be able to get... evangelical pastors.  It was the most receptive audience for I've ever had for my schpiel.  Just amazing.

  1. Lou,
I've presented Social Media to photographers, realtors, chambers of commerce, etc. They all get excited about the concept, yet only a few actually take the plunge and start talking, listening, and learning with Social Media. All the best to your schpiel.

  2. I can relate to what you're saying. I've had tepid response from local businessmen. But this time it was quite different. Before the seminar was over, two of the pastors had already established blogs on blogger (I did a hands-on session in the last hour), one set up a Facebook account and by Friday, another had already done a Vpype broadcast of his Friday night meeting. So two-thirds of the audience jumped in with both feet in the first week.
What made this experience so interesting to me is that the religious sector of our society is so anti-media that no new communication paradigm is looked at with acceptance. The church even branded Guttenberg as a satanist.

  3. quite interesting! I really enjoyed the IBM power lunch seminar in Nashville I attended , I learned a lot but thinking how much others could learn from such an event seems like a very amazing experience
